News & Notes:
If you are able, please send in a game for our auction basket. Each 3rd grade class will have a game basket in the auction.
Allergies: A gentle reminder that 3U is a peanut and tree nut free room. Please do not send your child with a snack that contains either of those. Thank you for your support.
Students are using the strategy of asking questions to help them better understand their reading. Questioning helps to deepen our understanding of story elements. We have worked on the spelling skill of word families and have ten new vocabulary words to study. We have also discussed compound sentences, contractions, and reviewed subjects and predicates, and read two biographies in our reading source books. Students will be taking the theme 2 reading test next week.
Math
We have finished unit 1 and will be taking the final assessment next Tuesday. We will begin unit 2, Addition & Subtraction strategies next Wednesday.
The Social studies test will be going home with your child today. Because this was the very first test, it was read to the class question by question Students answered questions independently and privately. Several questions were rephrased during the test in order to help the students comprehend the questions accurately. As the days and weeks progress, students will become increasingly independent in these test taking skills. We also began science this week. We are studying plants. Students are very excited.
Third graders created beautiful posters to go along the Prayer of St. Francis. We began session 3 in unit 1 discussing how Jesus taught us to pray. We will continue to discuss The Lord's Prayer next week.
