Parent Night
Thank you to all the parents who were able to make it to our Parent Night this past Wednesday evening. It was so good to see so many parents attending.
Start of the year
We are off and running in third grade! Students are getting adjusted to the quick pace of third grade and getting used to switching classes.
Snacks
Please be sure your child brings in a healthy snack for the morning. This would include but is not limited to cut fruit, yogurt, crackers, pretzels, vegetables. We discourage potato chips, Doritos, Rice Krispy Treats, or candy.
Reading
Teachers have begun the reading curriculum with students and are looking forward to an exciting year of reading growth. We reviewed making connections reading strategy, spelled words with the short vowel sound, and discussed story elements. We will continue working on these skills/strategies next week.
Math
Students have received their HOME LINKS Journal which is in their home-binder and should stay there. There is no assigned Home Link for this weekend as we have not started unit 1 yet. Students did take a pre-test on unit 1 yesterday, Thursday. This will allow me, Mrs. Miklautsch, to better meet their needs. We will begin our work in unit 1 next week.
Students also received an Everyday Mathematics login card which is stapled into the front of their assignment notebook. Please use the link below to practice logging in and explore the site.
I am asking that you send in a one and a half inch 3-ring binder (white), a pack of 12 clear poly pocket pages, a black Vis-A-Vis pen-fine point, and a pack of 8 dividers. This will allow your child organize their math work and reuse many game boards and activity sheets.

Social studies
This week we have been learning about maps and their features. We have also been reviewing the differences between cities, states, countries, and continents. Students began reading about urban communities. This will continue next week.
Religion
Children have discussed God as their Creator and the beautiful world he gave us because he loves us. Students drew wonderful pictures of the beauty they see from God. They are hanging in the third grade hallway. Stop and take a look if you are in the school! We have also discussed disciples and what it means to be a disciple of Jesus.
